Christ has no sexual desire
One of the most strict teachings of Christ is on the issue of adultery. I'm pretty sure the Bible says that simply lusting after a woman is considered adultery, and that you should gouge out your eyes. It's better than not going to heaven at all. I think it was someone else's wife.
This is strict. Actually, it's almost impossible. I think many people will shy away from Christianity after hearing this teaching. I even had a friend who pointed this out to me and said, "That's a bit much."
I'm not saying that you should lust after someone else's wife and then just let it happen and engage in sexual activity. Doing so would destroy families and throw society out of control. What I'm trying to say is that even if lust arises when you see a woman, it's possible to suppress it with reason and willpower and not allow it to lead to sexual activity. However, denying the very idea of lusting at the sight of the opposite sex...
I think this is impossible from a human perspective. I don't think it's because of weak reason or willpower. As animals, humans also have an instinct for sexual desire, and I believe we have circuits that trigger conditioned sexual desire toward the opposite sex. In other words, information about the opposite sex that enters our vision reaches the part of the brain responsible for sexual desire before it reaches the circuits responsible for rational recognition and judgment, triggering sexual desire there. Since instinct likely evolved before reason, instinct is older and stronger, so information likely enters it first. In fact, if you research this, you can find out what the scientific and medical implications are.
Also, you might say that Christ was referring to other people's wives, not women in general, but it's also possible that a man meets a stranger for the first time and is aroused by their beauty, even if she happens to be married. In other words, Christ is preaching a rejection of sexual desire itself.
"That's because you're a child of God who has no sexual desire, but we're not."
I'm tempted to say that Christ had no sexual desire. I think that should have been the case from the beginning. Because
"Virgin Birth"
Sexual desire was not involved in His birth. No wonder Christ had no sexual desire. In contrast, we humans were born driven by sexual desire, making us the poster children for it. Speaking of which, the Bible doesn't contain any frivolous stories about Christ. Not even a trace of Christ falling in love with someone.
To someone without sexual desire, we humans appear to be lustful and hopeless. That said, gouging out your eyes doesn't eliminate sexual desire, either. This is a real problem, but Islam revealed a solution.
As you'd expect from Muhammad, even though he was a prophet, he was still a human being just like us. He was fully aware (or rather, God knew) that we humans cannot escape sexual desire, and he told us to "do this" based on that premise.
But we'll talk about that next time.
That's all for today.
