On spirituality

Now that I'm an "online gaming addict," I understand the feelings of game addicts, and by extension, the mental state of addicts in general as if it were my own.

That means that humanity has been "addicted to money" for about 3,000 years, and I understand the mental state we've been in today since selling our souls to the devil called money.

This ties into what I posted before, and when I think about it, I feel like I want to keep writing about it, and I feel like that's my mission, but I think I was in the middle of writing about the religious path I've taken, so I thought I'd set that aside for a moment.

How far did I get? I kept getting sidetracked, and I've forgotten how far I got. I'm sure I first got into Buddhism, was saved by Shinran, and then saw the light of mercy in Nichiren. Anyway, no matter where I read the Buddhist scriptures, I would read "I will save you," and I think I wrote that I couldn't help but see the light of mercy.

That light of mercy is a white light, but it's not a visual one. It's spiritual. Spiritual light.

Perhaps God, or rather Buddha in this case, took pity on me and bestowed upon me faith, which allowed my spirituality to blossom. It opened my spiritual eyes.

This "spirituality" is different from reason. It's also different from artistic sensibility, I think. I feel like there are some similarities between the two.

Zen monk Daisetsu Suzuki wrote about this "spirituality" in his book "Japanese Spirituality," saying, "If you don't understand this, religion won't make sense." Those who understand it understand it immediately, but those who don't never understand it, and that's a lot of  trouble.

So, is spirituality some special ability? No, it's just "faith in God" or "faith in Buddha," something we all possess as innocent children. If you don't believe me, try asking a young child

"Pray to God (Buddha)"

Everyone would honestly say

"Yes."

At that moment,

"There's no way there's a God (Buddha)."

No child would say something precocious like that. None of the adults around them have taught them anything about God (Buddha), though. But as they grow older and gain a little wisdom, our shallow or naive wisdom can make them skeptical, and their spirituality can become clouded.

Also, even today, there are billions of people around the world who identify themselves as Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, or other religious believers, and they too possess "spirituality." That is, if they truly believe.

In other words, everyone is inherently endowed with "spirituality."

But even I, as a boy and adolescent, had a clouded spirituality. I'm sure I read the Bible back then, but I couldn't see the "light of love" at all. I wasn't reading it spiritually.

So, I decided to turn to Christianity next.

Guided by love and mercy
