Now it's time to recommend "I am content"

Even so, this wonderful "Money-girl" that has us hooked seems to be a speed freak. It just won't stop, and no one can stop her.

The eternal cycle of profit and investment that is capitalism

What is the purpose of our "economic activities"?

"To eat"

Right. So, if we can produce enough food to feed humanity, why not stop economic activities? We are already producing enough food to feed all of humanity, aren't we?

"There are still many hungry people, aren't there?"

That's true. But

"Even more people are obese and losing their health"

In other words, on the one hand there is a food shortage in the world, and on the other hand there is a food surplus. In reality, there is enough food. It's all about distribution, isn't it? And even if you have a lot of money, it's pointless to have more food than you need. No one can eat more than one portion, and even if you have extra, it just goes bad. You may want to eat more than one portion at an all-you-can-eat restaurant once in a while, but if you do that every day, you'll soon die of obesity.

"I won't die."

Yes, you will. If you become obese, your risk of developing adult diseases increases, so you will get sick and die. What do you need money for in the first place?

"To eat."

Right. So, if you can earn enough to eat, why don't you stop economic activity? I've always wondered, but I hear people make tens of millions, hundreds of millions, billions, or even trillions of dollars a year, but what would you do with that much? If you're earning it to eat, do you go to a restaurant and order five, ten, a hundred, or even ten thousand servings every time? Even though you can only eat one serving?

"No, people don't just need to eat, they also need a place to live."

Indeed. First of all, we need "food, clothing, and shelter." So, if we can provide housing for the entire human race, why don't we stop economic activity then?

"There are homeless people, aren't there?"

Indeed. But

"There are many municipalities that are struggling with vacant houses."

In other words, there is enough housing. It's all about distribution, isn't it? Moreover, aren't there many high-rise apartments and luxury properties that were purchased for investment purposes and are not actually lived in? What's the point of owning them for investment, that is, to make more money, when you can use them for living but don't use them? Why not just let homeless people live in high-rise apartments that don't actually have a residence? It must be a very comfortable living environment, with a million-dollar night view. In the end, it's a matter of distribution, even with places to live. Don't you think there is actually enough? No, don't you think there is a surplus?

"I also need clothes."

Indeed. But with global warming these days, it's too hot for half the year. Aren't you enough with just a T-shirt and shorts? It's certainly cold in the winter. But you know, if you buy a down jacket once, you can wear it for years. Aren't there a lot of people who buy new clothes and throw away the old ones even though they can still wear them? I hear that's called being fashionable. If there are so many things that you can throw away even though you can still wear them, don't you have plenty of clothes? In other words, there are enough clothes to wear. Or rather, there are surpluses. Or rather, there are so many that you can throw away. And they are being thrown away. In fact, food waste is a problem, so even food is literally

"There's so much we can throw away"

And we're actually

"Throwing it away"

In other words, we have enough for everything, whether it's food, clothing, or shelter. Not only are we enough

"There's so much we can throw away"

but also we're actually

"Throwing it away"

The rest is a question of distribution. So, why do we continue economic activity any more? To the point of destroying the earth? To the point of going to war? Isn't it time to know what is enough?

"I only know contentment"

This is also what a Zen monk said. Another version of "Less Desire and Contentment" .

Oops, I forgot about my beloved "Money-girl" at the beginning. That's right, she just can't stop economic activity, the beautiful "Money-girl". Even if production activities continue until we can provide food, clothing and shelter for all of humanity. That's because our idol, my dear Money-girl's purpose is not to

"make humanity happy"

 but to

"increase the number of these sparkling selves".

If economic activity is stopped, money will not increase any more. So even if production capacity increases to the point where humanity can be provided with the necessary food, clothing and shelter, she can't just say

 "Mission Completed"

and stop playing the game. The money game. When you look at it this way, capitalism is just as addicted to games as me. Not online games, but "money games". Isn't that worse?
